SYNOPSIS

Pull the words off the page and bring them to life in this short course that focuses on the elements that make up great reading aloud sessions. Using audio recordings and marked texts, readers brush up their vocal skills and prepare a performance of their own by the end of the course.

The course starts with work on the vocal quality itself, using breathing and movement techniques employed by actors, professional readers, broadcasters and public figures to increase the strength and reach of their voice.

Participants then go on to work intensively on their readings in skills such as vocal tone, clarity, pausing and emphasis. They also tidy up errors made in pronunciation, cadence and rhythm.

For the final performance, participants prepare a more visual experience which includes using body posture and position, eye contact, gestures and movement to enliven their stories. Carry away a memory of this event with a video recording on your phone.

Feedback from the trainer and the other attendees throughout the training will ensure that you will be ready to perform!

Participants can bring their own books along to read. Material will also be provided by the trainer for practice.
