SYNOPSIS

Memoir Poetry can be a powerful tool of self-expression for children. It helps them introspect, look back at their own lives with fresh eyes and in writing a memoir poem, a child often forms a closer acquaintance with his sense of self.

Using Memoir Poetry as the central genre, this workshop will explore different ways by which students can be taught to make better use of the English language. The inherent flexibility of the genre allows a child to explore his imagination with few restraints and instils in him a confidence and a new motive for writing.

Keeping this as the basic premise, through the workshop’s exercises, children will acquire the necessary tools and techniques for writing in a more literary style. Literary style can be defined as the author's word choice, sentence structure, figurative language, and sentence arrangement which work together to establish mood, images, and meaning in the text.

Going beyond that it would provide a window to the beauty of poetic thought and poetic expression which is concise, distilled and carefully constructed.
