SYNOPSIS

Those starting out in copy-editing or intending to enter this area of work will find the course useful. This course reflects both traditional and evolving practices. At the end of the course participants should have an understanding of the scope of a copy-editing task, how to prepare text so it is ready for the next stage of production, the importance of clarity and consistency and how to ensure good communication with others in the process.

Familiarity with BSI proof-correcting symbols is useful but not essential. Participants who are competent using Microsoft Word may like to bring a laptop and try some exercises on screen
(please note the course does not include instruction in the use of Word, though useful techniques will be demonstrated), however, a laptop is not essential as all exercises can be done on paper.
