The course will cover questions related to the process of literary translation. It will be broken into three main parts:

• The Making of a Literary Translation
• Translating Difficulties and
• The Making of the Translator

During the session, we will discuss the mindsets underlying the process of literary translation, as well as strategies one can apply to the translation process. We will look at challenges specific to the translation of literary works (as opposed to commercial and other types of translation), and explore case studies that will help students find ways to apply the mindsets and strategies discussed earlier in the session. Particular attention will be given here to issues such as the voice and tone of a text. The final part of the course will examine the making of the translator and how s/he relates to the text, the author, and the industry.

This course is suitable for: Authors and those interested in literary translation
