The National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS), with the support of National Library Board (NLB), Singapore Tamil Teachers’ Union (STTU) and Association of Singapore Tamil Writers, is pleased to invite you to the Tamil Editing Workshop to be held on 15 & 16 May, 2010 at the STTU premises at Race Course Road, Singapore.

Editing of Tamil texts, be they short stories, novels or poems, is a rare phenomenon in the Tamil publishing world. When we look at the publishing standards in other languages, especially in English, we can see how much Tamil publishing needs to catch up. Even Nobel Prize winning authors in English need and have editors to fine-tune their books before they are published.

To address this very important need in Tamil publishing in Singapore, NBDC, NLB, STTU and Association of Singapore Tamil Writers have taken the pioneering steps to organise a Tamil editing workshop, which is probably the first such attempt in Singapore.

The workshop will be conducted over a two-day period on 15 & 16 May 2010, each day from 9 am to 6 pm. There will be lectures, demonstrations and personal exercises. The workshop will deal with fiction, non-fiction, and translation.
