Bengkel ini akan memberi pendedahan akan gaya penulisan serta pendekatan yang boleh digunakan dalam menghasilkan sesebuah karya, khususnya cerpen. Para peserta juga akan dikongsi sama beberapa teknik penulisan yang berguna dalam usaha untuk melahirkan sebuah cerpen yang menarik.

At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:
a. identify the processes taken when writing a creative prose,
b. understand the various techniques that can be used in creating an effective creative prose, and
c. produce a sound logline that they will use for their upcoming written work.
The style of writing and the different approaches in writing will be shared during the course of this workshop. Participants will also be introduced to the different techniques that they can apply in their effort to come up with a short story.
 

Djohan A Rahman merupakan seorang penulis kelahiran Singapura yang memulakan perjalanan penulisan beliau pada tahun 1991. Dewasa itu, beliau sering menghasilkan seni kata dikir barat untuk kumpulannya ‘Andika’. Cerpen pertama beliau yang berjudul ‘Salah Siapa’ telah memenangi Hadiah Persuratan Kategori Remaja pada tahun 2001. Selepas menamatkan pengajiannya di Universiti Malaya pada tahun 2004, Djohan semakin aktif dalam bidang penulisan. Sajak, cerpen serta esei beliau telah diterbitkan akhbar tempatan (Berita Harian dan The New Paper). Beberapa cerpen dan sajak beliau juga telah dimuatkan ke dalam antologi bersama terbitan syarikat-syarikat penerbitan di Singapura, Malaysia dan Indonesia. Beliau telah menerbitkan antologi solonya (Tika Aksara Menari) pada tahun 2017 dan naskhah itu telah disenaraipendekkan sebagai salah satu karya terbaik untuk anugerah Hadiah Kesusasteraan Singapura 2018. Selain menulis skrip untuk radio, televisyen dan pentas, cerpen beliau (Topang) juga telah diadaptasi ke rancangan drama di radio pada Mac 2018. 

About the Trainer:

Djohan A Rahman is from Singapore. He started off writing lyrics for his dikir barat performing arts group (Andika) in 1991. He wrote his first short story (Salah Siapa?) in 1999 and it won the Biennial Malay Literary Award in 2001. Upon completing his studies at University of Malaya in 2004, he became more active in writing; having his poems, short stories and essays published by the local papers (Berita Harian and The New Paper). His selected works have also been included in several anthologies in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. His solo anthology entitled ‘Tika Aksara Menari’ was published in 2017 and was nominated as a shortlisted entry in the 2018 Singapore Literature Prize. Apart from also writing scripts for radio, television and theatre, one of his short story entitled ‘Topang’ was selected to be adapted into a radio drama programme in March 2018. 

Registration Details

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis and workshop fees must be paid before the workshop. If the minimum number of participants is not met for the class, the organisers will inform all participants about possible postponement and cancellation, two weeks before the workshop date.

Cancellation & Substitution

The workshop can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the workshop date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for workshops cancelled by us.

Participants who are unable to attend a workshop they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the workshop date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances (E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents) . Those who inform us up to five (5) working days before the workshop date will receive a 50% refund. Participants can also attend another course at the same value within the same year.

Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the cancellation, withdrawal and substitution policy and accept the terms contained therein.
