Business documents include letters, reports, proposals and also e-mails. In a good business document, the objectives are firm, the point of view is clear, the points are well expressed and the flow of thought is logical. Learn techniques to plan, organise and write business documents in an effective and concise manner. This is a course for anyone who aspires to communicate more effectively in a business setting and write appropriately for the intended audience. You could be a staff from any organisation and industry with the following aims:

Aims

  • Understanding the 5 Cs of effective business writing namely being Clear, Concise, Coherent, Correct and Courteous
  • Analysing your purpose and audience
  • Composing your message
  • Controlling the style and tone of your message
  • Avoiding common mistakes and pitfalls such as use of British and
  • American spelling and Homonyms (witch vs which).

Course Outline

Plan First, Write Later
Organise your thoughts on paper with your audience in mind. What are you trying to say and what is the best way to say it?

Using Plain English
Using simple, direct and user-friendly words and phrases is the best way of putting your message across.

Clever Formatting
Organise your message and make your key points stand out using fonts, headings, paragraphs and bullets.

Proofreading
Errors in spelling and punctuation distract the reader and prevents your message from getting across effectively. Be aware of some common mistakes and learn to proofread your work quickly and effectively.

Email – Today’s Letter
Emails have replaced the traditional business letter and learning to use this medium to your best advantage is vital. This segment will cover some important do's and don'ts in email correspondence.

Registration Details

Minimum – Maximum Number of Participants: 15 – 25 pax

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis and workshop fees must be paid before the workshop. If the minimum number of participants is not met for the class, the organisers will inform all participants about possible postponement and cancellation, two weeks before the workshop date.

Cancellation & Substitution

The workshop can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the workshop date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for workshops cancelled by us.

Participants who are unable to attend a workshop they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the workshop date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances (E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents) . Those who inform us up to five (5) working days before the workshop date will receive a 50% refund. Participants can also attend another course at the same value within the same year.

Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the cancellation, withdrawal and substitution policy and accept the terms contained therein.
