SYNOPSIS

Interested in finding out how to manage the contractual relationship between you and the publisher? Not sure what the terms in a publishing contract mean? This 3-hour course specially designed for writers and illustrators aims to furnish you with all these know-hows. . You will also learn whether your works are copyright protected and how you can obtain the necessary copyright clearances for your works.

Programme Outline

I.     Fundamentals of Copyright Law (1.5 Hr) 

  • What are copyright protected works
  • Ownership issues
  • Duration and Rights in copyright protected works
  • Copyright Infringement and Defences
  • Copyright Clearances and Use of Third Party Materials

II.   Publishing Rights (1.5 hr)

  • Grant of publishing rights including e-publishing / digital rights
  • Ancillary/Subsidiary Rights
  • Understanding the terms of a publishing contract and key issues

About the Trainer:

Registration Details

Minimum – Maximum Number of Participants: 15 – 30 pax

Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis and workshop fees must be paid before the workshop. If the minimum number of participants is not met for the class, the organisers will inform all participants about possible postponement and cancellation of workshop, two weeks before the workshop date.

All ALAP workshops serve tea-breaks and provide course handouts.

Withdrawals:

The Organiser will refund 75% of the course fees if written notice of withdrawal is received at least 1 week before the commencement of the course.  The remaining 25% will be charged as an administration fee. No refund will be made for any withdrawal after this period except in mitigating and extenuating circumstances (e.g. bereavement, illness and accidents), subject to management’s approval. Documentary evidence must be produced in such circumstances.

Substitutions are welcome at any time. However, such requests must be made to the IP Academy in writing.

Cancellation & Refund:

The Organiser reserves the right of cancellation. A full refund will be given to registrants if the course is cancelled by the Organiser. The IP Academy reserves the right to make changes to the programme.
