Synopsis
Increasingly, the writer is becoming an integral part in the selling and marketing of their work. When a publisher looks at a publishing proposal, for example, their focus is as much the marketing of the book and author’s role in that process as it is on the content of the proposed work. Not only are highly developed written and oral communication skills vital to making your mark on the world and paving a way for a successful writing career, but the speaking circuit can sometimes be as profitable as the writing game. Benefit from the tips, tricks and techniques that Simon Clews has been using for the past thirty years to get your message across and enhance your career as a writer.
What the course covers
This workshop picks up when the pen leaves the paper or when the last keystroke is done. In a way it is about everything else the writer must do in addition to coming up with amazing ideas and translating them into winning words.
Participants will look at:
- The writer as “good talent” – someone who is a great speaker and who can help promote their own work
- The speaking circuit as a source of income and audience awareness/development
- How to get invited to writers’ festivals and other literary events
- How to support the marketing and promotion of their work before it is even written!
The workshop will offer training in:
- Public speaking
- Enhancing a presentation with AV or IT
- Working with the media
Participants for this workshop can be at any stage in their writing career, but should understand that the notion of the writer as “good talent” is as crucial to achieving success as coming up with great stories and ideas and writing them well is. This is not a workshop for shy, retiring wallflowers!
